Giving Up

I’ve been working at personal change, both for myself and others, for at least a few years now.  If there’s anything I’ve noticed that’s a real pitfall when one is trying to change, it’s giving up.    And everyone does it.

I mean, we’ve spent our lives trying to avoid the things we’d really like to overcome.  If we didn’t want to avoid them, then they wouldn’t be a problem in the first place!  It would be great if it were simple enough to just immediately get over the problem and not have to sweat it.  Even with 3D Mind, though, sorting out your mind, behaviors and life in general is still a lot of work.  It’s easy to fall back on the behaviors we’re trying to change.

That’s life.  Unfortunately, it’s hard to examine ourselves in a completely objective way like an engineer programming a computer.  In a way, we ARE the computer, so any programming we do on ourselves can be muddled by what’s already there.  That just means it takes more work to see through our own mental crap to get to the other side.

Now, because of the way the brain works, we can’t resist ourselves forever.  It’s gonna happen that we get demotivated, give up, or even backslide every now and then until the problem is gone.  This happens to EVERYONE.  But you still have to keep in mind the prize at the end of the line.  When you have big doubts, it’s easy to rationalize that maybe you just don’t deserve it or that you’re somehow unique in not being able to do what you want to do.  But remember that you wanted to reach that goal for a good reason in the first place.

Think of it this way.  Until we clean out the beliefs that limit us, they’re going to try to stop us, and it’s going to wear us out.  It’s okay to take a break for a while from striving toward what you want to do, but keep in mind what it would be like when you get to where you want to be, and pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep going as soon as possible because the life you want is there waiting for you to get there.

The only way you’re not going to get there is if you stop and give up entirely.  So take a break if you have to, but always keep your eye and heart on the prize and keep going.  Once you’re there, you’ll be glad you didn’t stop.
